7月30日雅思大作文Task:Some people think that the government should decide the subject for students to study in university. Others believe that students should be allowed to apply for the subject they prefer. Discuss both views and give your opinion.
有人认为政府应该决定学生在大学期间的课程,其他人认为应该允许学生申请自己喜欢的课程。讨论双方观点并给出你的观点。
参考范文:
It is clear that the design and arrangement of the curriculum of a university should be oriented to its stakeholders including the government, which sets up some macro policies and steers the direction of the country as a whole and the other, conspicuously, students who gain most tangible benefits from courses. As for which party has the final say to hammer out the decision, arguments split into two types.
The opponents of government-guided subjects state that this practice would balance the supply of labour force of different fields to the society. As the policy maker, the government is more likely to have a clear picture of the demand and supply of human resources and thus it can tailor the set of courses in university to mitigate the lack of supply of certain students mastering the specific know-how. With the sufficient and balanced offer of intellectual talents, various industries would be less vulnerable to slowdown and would be fueled by the brain power.
The dissenters of the above-mentioned opinion argue that students themselves are supposed to decide what subjects they desire to apply for. The autonomy in their options for subjects can help to arouse interest and motivation, and students are less likely to suffer from study fatigue and even frustration when they are confronted with some academic problems. In contrast, although the subjects determined by the government are orthodox to some extent, the personal characteristics of student would probably not taken into account, thereby dampening the students’ enthusiasm.
Personally, I also support the stance of the latter, believing that it is students themselves who ought to make a decision on what subjects they can select. One benefits is that their fortes can be well respected and fully tapped since students understand better what they are adept at and what subjects they can less achieve decent performance. I think the true essence of each subjects is to help the students to give full play of their potential rather than to merely mould them into working machines.
