Task：In many countries，children show less respect to adults than children did in the past.What causes this problem ?What can be done about it?

Sample answer：

In modern society, the younger generation, compared with their parents or grandparents at their ages, shows less respect to parents or teachers. For example, some children refuse to embrace suggestions from or give priority to the older generation.

This trend may involve some factors and the most rooted one can be that children receive higher level of education than before. The theoretical knowledge and skills they acquire from school education equip them with the ability to solve practical problems independently rather than seeking assistance from teachers or parents. Under such circumstance, there is no need, they advocate, to adopt advice from adults. In addition, the invention of information technology enables children to be well-informed individuals. As long as their computers or phones are connect to internet, they are able to know the latest news, most creative art exhibitions as well as the fashion trend. In their views, most adults’ thoughts are outmoded , pedantic or conservative and following their steps is a sign of retrogression. What’s more, bad examples set by parents influenced their offsprings’ behaviors. For example, when taking public transport such as subways or buses, they reject the idea of offering seats to the elderly. Another example is that seldom do they take their old parents’ thoughts or life into consideration.

In order to tackle this social issue, some measures should be taken by both schools and parents. First of all, moral principles education should be given priority. Specifically, some related curriculums or lectures emphasizing the value of respecting individuals are supposed to set up on a regular basis. Besides, parents as the closest persons to children are required to provide proper guidance or even impose punishment to correct children’s wrong behavior. When it comes to children themselves, it is necessary to build up an awareness of showing respect to adults no matter how better educated and informed they are.

In conclusion, being respectable persons need to respect others at first. That is to say, only if children can be respectful in their early ages, will they earn others’ respect in the future.
