My grandma is a storied lady and a good storyteller. When I was still a child, my grandma and I used to sit close together as she told me family stories about herself, deceased grandpa and of course her only son, my dad.
Usually it was just us two, but occasionally, my dad or mom would join in too. One weekend when I didn’t have to go to school and I’d finished my homework, I would run up to my grandma and bugged her for some stories. Once in the presence of dad and in spite of his obstruction in every possible way, grandma didn’t budge an inch and still disclosed some laughable stuff about him.
When dad was in primary school, he made a paper ring with many little pieces, and it took him quite some time to finish. But when he went back from the restroom, it was missing. He was so angry and asked other guys who took it. Someone says Tom did it, and then my dad walked towards angrily and hit him on the head and he cried. But finally it turned out that the ring was blown away by wind. So dad apologized to him, and he finally became dad’s best friend. As dad always impressed me as an educated gentleman, it was kind of jaw-dropping to know that he was that impulsive, but to be honest that story just made dad more adorable. Besides, she also gave me a lot of descriptions of how poor people used to be and taught me to appreciate what I had now.
The story sharing moments are gems of my childhood. I know grandpa better as well as dad and mama, and most of all, I love them all more.
