动词替换：

1.improve 提高

promote 促进 提升

promote the trade between country A and country B

He was promoted to senior manager in the company.

Advance 提升 发展

Our understanding of human genetics has considerably advanced.对遗传学的认识理解相当地(well)发展/前进。

Enhance 加强 提高

The publicity has enhanced his reputation.

Reinforce 强化 加强

Reinforce the interference of the authority and its ability of macroeconomic control 加强政府的干预和宏观调控能力

2.change 改变

transform 指改头换面完全改变 不是slight change

The increasing population has transformed the landscape and structure of local industry. 人口剧增改变了小镇的景色以及当地的工业结构。

3.emphasize 强调 并不是一定会让别人注意到强调的重点

highlight 类似老师勾重点让学生更清楚

The report highlights the decline in the number of native/local plants and insects.

To highlight/emphasize the significance/magnitude of sth

强调……的重要性

stress

He stresses the need/necessity for parents to listen to their children carefully.

Accentuate

The crisis accentuates the gap between rich and poor.

4.Develop 培养

Cultivate

Cultivate the ability of...… 一般都是培养情操(sentiment)

Cultivate a more relaxed and positive way towards life

Nurture 养育/同样可以指培养人才(talents)

The sea nurtures ample marine animals.

5.break 破坏

Impair

Impair one’s ability 主要指破坏能力 切忌乱用

Undermine 抽象意义上的破坏 有削弱之意 重点在于循序渐进的过程

Undermine one’s ability/confidence/authority/position/credibility

Jeopardize 也不可乱用，破坏的东西要上一定的等级才能配上此词

Jeopardize the process of peace 破坏和平进程

Devastate 特指毁灭、蹂躏

The earthquake devastated the whole city.

6.keep 保存

preserve/conserve + natural resources 自然资源等保护

不可以换用protect+（具体的一些东西或人）

7.deal with 解决

tackle + the problem/matter

resolve 相对正式些

resolve dispute 争论/conflict冲突/problem/issue/crisis

8.need 需要

require 需要要求命令

sth requires our courage and confidence

success usually requires hard work.

necessitate 使……成为必须 需要迫使

his apathy(indifference) necessitates stimulation.

=it is necessary to stimulate his apathy.

被动：e was necessitated to leave Europe for the U.S......

call for 需要要求提倡

To be a nurse calls for endurance and patience.

This good news calls for a celebration.
