In recent years, big shopping malls and supermarkets have been gaining popularity in many parts of the world, leading to the idea that these large complexes are gradually destroying small traditional shops. While it is certainly true that traditional stores are facing increasing competition, I firmly believe that such views do not necessarily hold up under scrutiny.

The first major point I wish to draw upon is the fact that big shopping malls and supermarkets offer a wide range of products at affordable prices. This has benefitted many people who may not otherwise have been able to access such a variety or quality of goods. In contrast, small traditional shops may not have the resources to offer the same prices, meaning the consumer could be paying more for the same products. This could ultimately lead to the closure of such stores.

Moreover, large retail complexes can have a positive impact on the local economy. Such establishments are massive in scale, employing large numbers of staff and pumping money back into the area. Furthermore, attracting shoppers to one area often leads to greater foot traffic and tourism, which can be beneficial to all businesses in the vicinity, both small and large.

Finally, it is important to note that small traditional shops still hold a special place in people's hearts. Many people enjoy the personal touch that they provide and the sense of community that surrounds such shops. It is therefore unrealistic to assume that traditional stores will disappear entirely, even when faced with competition from bigger establishments.

In conclusion, while it is tempting to see the rise of large shopping malls and supermarkets as an inevitable threat to traditional small shops, I firmly believe this is not the case. Such retailers can benefit the customer by offering affordable prices and a wide range of products, as well as having a positive impact on the local economy. Small traditional shops are loved by many and are therefore unlikely to disappear completely.
