I once had an interesting conversation with my tutor about my term paper.
I’m a student majoring Art, and I worked hard on my term paper on the nuanced difference between Chinese and western culture. But recently I run into some sort of trouble and can’t get over it by myself, so I turned to my tutor, professor Wen, for help. She is a nice lady, and often kindly offered me some great advice about study and beyond.
So I made an appointment for two hours and in that afternoon I went to her office to meet her. As usual, she first asked me how these days were going, and then I asked her my questions. For example, what specific cultural forms are better in my term paper, as well as if I write the difference between Chinese philosophy and western philosophy, what should I mention to make my paper outstanding? Professor Wang didn’t answer my question directly, she first asked me why I wanted to focus on philosophy and which philosopher’s points I appreciate. I told her I liked the book Sophie’s World. To my surprise, she said she loved it very much. So we started talking about the famous characters and what we thought about the points in the book. We just acted like two young girls talking about our favorite star. Time flies, I learned some different thoughts from my tutor about how to get into the historical details of both culture and how to set the culture difference against historical backgrounds.
Our conversation went smoothly and I got the guidance I terribly need. The conversation between my tutor and me is interesting because it’s so relaxing and fun. My understanding with my tutor is growing with our conversation, and I really learn something from it indeed.
