Famed for its crystal clear waters and white sand beaches, a slice of paradise in the Turks and Caicos has been named the best island in the world.

Providenciales has a reputation as one of the best beach destinations on the planet, and is adding to its trophy haul after claiming the top gong in TripAdvisor’s annual ranking.

普罗维顿西亚利斯岛享誉全球，被认为是世界上最美的沙滩旅游胜地之一，在著名旅游网站TripAdvisor进行的一年一度的全球最美岛屿榜单中排在首位。

The Caribbean island, north-east of Cuba, was tops in the website’s Travellers’ Choice Awards for 2015, edging Maui in Hawaii and Roatan in Honduras.

这个加勒比海域的岛屿，位于古巴的东北部，荣获TripAdvisor网站2015年“游客选择大奖”。夏威夷的茂宜岛、洪都拉斯的罗阿坦岛分别排在该奖项的第二和第三位。

TripAdvisor said the rankings are based on reviews from users around the world, with winners being determined using an algorithm that considers the quantity and quality of reviews and ratings for each island’s hotels, restaurants and attractions.

TripAdvisor网站称评选是根据世界各地的网友评论得出的，综合考量了各个岛屿的自然景观和餐饮住宿等服务业的情况。

Rounding out the top five were Santorini in Greece, which was named the best island in Europe, and Ko Tao in Thailand.

排在第四位的是希腊的圣托里尼岛，它被认为是欧洲最美的岛屿。泰国的龟岛排在第五位。

No island in the UK or Australia managed to crack the global top 10.

英国和澳大利亚都没有岛屿登上全球前十的榜单中。

In the European top five, Santorini was followed by Madeira, the Greek islands of Crete and Zakynthos, and Fuerteventura in Spain’s Canary Islands.

在欧洲最美岛屿的前五名中，圣托里尼岛排在第一，马德拉群岛排第二，接着是希腊的克利特岛、扎金索斯岛，第五名是西班牙的富埃特文图拉岛。

Jersey, a self-governing British Crown dependency, was named the sixth best island in Europe and the top island in the UK and Channel Islands category.

英国皇家属地之一泽西岛，在欧洲最美岛屿中排名第六，在英国最美岛屿中排名第一位。

In a statement, a spokesperson for the Visit Jersey tourist bureau said: ‘We are thrilled to learn that Jersey has been voted number one island in the Travellers’ Choice Awards for Islands UK and Channel Islands category.
